Animal Encounters

Join one of our three animal encounters that allow you to travel behind-the-scenes to see animal "digs" while also hearing "tales" told by Senior Curators. All encounters start promptly at 4:15pm and last approximately one hour as the regular event starts at 5:30pm. Liability waivers will need to be filled out prior to the encounter. Animal Encounter ticket cost is in addition to the regular or VIP ticket cost.

Lion Encounter

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to come face-to-face with a lion? How about three? Well, we invite you to find your wild side with our pride of five.As your journey begins, you will have the opportunity to adventure out into the Lion exhibit where you will place enrichment in the yard. Don't worry, we will get you back on the outside before we let Lizzie and Arthur attack! If you're brave enough, head back into the den and come face-to-face with our three lion cubs, Nia, Kali and Zuri.

Giraffe Encounter

Have you ever felt a giraffes tongue? Do you know what they like to eat? During the giraffe encounter, come face-to-face with Taji, Vivian, Emy and Finely in this exclusive behind-the-scenes experience. Guests will feed our tower of four and get a special viewing of the areas they call home. Led by senior Curators of the Zoo, included are special “tales” of our tallest animals.

Tortoise Encounter

Golly gee, George! You would never guess how big one tortoise can be! During our tortoise encounter, we will go into the tortoise enclosure and offer special enrichment to George during this face-to-face visit. As our oldest animal at Peoria Zoo, George will tug at your heartstrings and you'll be amazed by your immersive experience!
